Hardwood Flooring

Hardwood Refinishing Services

Just like with anything, as hardwood flooring ages it becomes dull and scratched from use. Unlike other types of flooring, however, hardwood can be refinished and make a comeback! Depending on whether your floor is solid or engineered can help determine how many times it can be sanded down. Solid hardwood can be done a handful of times, whereas engineered hardwood can be done once or twice depending on how thick the top veneer is. As your local flooring retailer, we suggest not refinishing your hardwood alone. Hiring a professional is a guaranteed way to achieve the new look you want. Visit our Merkel Furniture Carpet One Floor & Home showroom to speak with a professional about having your hardwood flooring refinished.

Hardwood Refinishing Options

Buffing is the easiest way to refinish your hardwood. If the damage you want removed is only on the surface finish and the wood underneath is in good shape, you can get away with buffing the surface, which is also known as screening. Our professionals use a buffing tool with a series of screen grits to restore your hardwood’s luster. We recommend refinishing your floors with a low-VOC water based finish or polyurethane.

Sanding and refinishing hardwood floors gives you the chance to completely restore old, damaged flooring. You even have the option to change the stain of your flooring. This method uses a drum sander with different sized grits. Once it is sanded down to the bare wood and the cracks are filled in with wood filler, the stain can be applied.
