Life is all about choices. Where you decide to make a home and raise your family, where you work, worship, even what you have for lunch on a Tuesday afternoon. Some are insignificant, others more important, but one thing that is constant is that it is yours to make. Flooring in general, and tile more specifically is also about choices. Whether you try to do it yourself, or hire a trained professional speaks volumes about who you are, and what your priorities are.
I, by nature am someone who likes to try to be self-sufficient whenever possible. I like to do my own yard work, I like to wash my car on warm summer afternoons in the driveway. I even go so far as to do my own painting jobs around the house. Two things that I don't do myself are: changing my own oil in the car, and installing flooring of any kind in my house. My reasoning is simple. It's just not worth it to spend an hour and a half getting oil all over myself and my concrete, only to have to clean everything up afterward, to save $3.00. Installing flooring is similar to that.
I don't have the time or the expertise to install ceramic tile, nor do I have the patience. In the time that it would take me to just get all of the tools and materials into the house, an expert installer could have the job completed, cleaned up, and sitting in his van eating a sandwich. There is a big difference between frugality and cost effective. My time and stress are worth more than that.
